SAMS Odisha +2 Merit List 2026: 1st, 2nd and Spot Selection

Your name is on the SAMS merit list (ମେଧା ତାଲିକା). What now? This guide explains the 2026 +2 and +3 selection rounds, the intimation letter, reporting, slide-up and spot admission, with every date labelled by source.

Checked against official sources: 16 October 2026 · Independent guide

SAMS does not hold interviews. After the CAF window closes, the system builds a merit list for each round and allots seats by your marks, your category and the order of your choices. If you are selected, you download an intimation letter and report to the school or college with your documents and fee before the deadline.

This page covers both +2 (Class 11) and +3 (degree) selection in the 2026 cycle. It is an independent guide, not the official SAMS site. Merit lists are published only on samsodisha.gov.in and its sub-portals. For how to apply in the first place, see our +2 admission guide and +3 admission guide.

+2 selection rounds in 2026

The official +2 FAQ says: "Admission will be completed in three steps: i.e. First Selection, Second Selection & Spot Admission". The 2026 dates below were reported by news outlets. We did not see them on an official notice, so confirm on the portal.

Intimation letter and how to check your status

The official +2 FAQ says you download the intimation letter through "Know Your CAF Status". Your status is also sent by SMS, email and WhatsApp. There is no postal intimation.

  1. Type samsodisha.gov.in yourself and open the portal for your course (+2 or Degree).
  2. Look for "Know Your CAF Status" or a similar link. Menu names can change between years.
  3. Enter the details the page asks for. Usually these are details from your CAF or your student login. See our login guide if you forgot the password.
  4. Check the school or college, stream and round shown on the letter.
  5. Download and print the intimation letter. Keep a copy on your phone too.
  6. Report before the deadline for that round. If you miss it, the seat can go to someone else.

If the screen looks different or the link does not open, wait a little (portals are busy on result day) or call the official helpline 155335 or toll-free 1800-345-6770.

Stay safe. SAMS applications are made only on the official portal, by you. No agent can buy you a seat or change your marks. Never share your login, password or OTP, and ignore result links sent on WhatsApp that ask for payment. This site never asks for any of these.

What to carry when you report (+2)

The official FAQ says to bring:

  • Original certificates (Class 10 marksheet and others asked for)
  • CAF print-out
  • Passport-size photo
  • "Admission fees" (the FAQ does not state the amount, so ask the school)

For spot selection, the FAQ says you must get a Transfer Certificate (TC) from your previous higher secondary school before admission.

Slide-up: if you were selected against a lower option, you can request a slide-up to a higher option in case a vacancy comes up. The FAQ says that on slide-up or transfer, the school refunds your fee after deducting a Rs 100 processing fee.

+3 (degree) merit list rounds in 2026

Degree admissions follow a different system. After each allotment you choose one of these options, as explained in the official Degree FAQ:

  • Freeze: you accept the seat and stop.
  • Slide: you keep the seat but want a higher choice in the same college if one opens.
  • Float: you keep the seat but want any higher choice in later rounds.
  • Alter: switch Slide to Float or Freeze, or Float to Freeze, except in the last round. An official press note of 22 June 2026 said Alter was new and uses an OTP.

Note a date difference: the Higher Education Department press note of 26 May 2026 planned the first merit list for 17 June 2026, but the press note of 22 June 2026 says it was released on 22 June 2026, with 1,78,782 selected out of 2,37,200 applicants for 2,87,327 seats.

A revised timeline in a DHE letter (July 2026, official) gave these Phase I dates:

StepDate (official DHE letter)
Re-choice filling8 July (2 pm) to 12 July 2026 (11:45 pm)
2nd round allotment20 July 2026, 2 pm; reporting 21 to 23 July
3rd and final round allotment29 July 2026, 2 pm; reporting 30 July to 1 August
Waitlist4 August 2026, 12 noon; physical reporting 5 to 6 August
Waitlist merit list7 August 2026, 2 pm; final admission 10 to 11 August

Careers360 (30 July 2026) reported 88,480 admissions in round 1, 30,150 confirmations in round 2 and 53,656 allotments in round 3. Careers360 also reported a "round 4" list scheduled for 4 August 2026, the same day as the official waitlist date, so sources name this step differently.

Spot admission: what it means

Spot admission is the last chance to fill vacant seats after the main rounds.

  • +2: in 2026, choice locking for spot ran 30 July to 2 August, the SPOT list came on 6 August and reporting was 7 to 12 August (Careers360, as reported). You need a TC if you were admitted elsewhere earlier.
  • +3 Phase II: Careers360 (updated 1 October 2026) reported a CAF from 10 to 20 September, a first round on 23 September, a spot merit list on 1 October and reporting from 3 to 7 October 2026.

Spot seats depend on vacancies, so popular colleges may have none left. Cut-offs from each round are explained on our cut-off marks page.

Not selected? What to do next

  • Check your status again after each round. Many students get a seat in the second round.
  • For +2, take part in spot choice locking when it opens.
  • For +3, look for Phase II or spot notices on the portal.
  • Check if your choices were too narrow. Next time, add more realistic options.
  • For help, use the official contacts on our SAMS helpline page.

Stay safe on merit list day

This guide is independent and is not connected to SAMS, the Higher Education Department or any government office. We never ask for your CAF number, roll number, login ID, password, OTP, Aadhaar or bank details, so please do not send them to us.

  • Fill the CAF yourself on the official portal and pay only the official fee shown there, if any.
  • Never share your OTP, Aadhaar or bank details with unknown callers, even if they say they are from SAMS or a college.
  • Beware of fake websites, fake result or merit list links, and agents who promise a seat for money. Seats are given only through the official selection rounds.
  • Open the portal by typing samsodisha.gov.in yourself instead of clicking forwarded links.

In 2023, OdishaBytes reported that about 50 students admitted directly by colleges, outside the SAMS list, had their admissions treated as "null and void". Only a SAMS allotment counts.

Frequently asked questions

When was the SAMS Odisha +2 first merit list 2026 released?

As reported by OdishaBytes and Free Press Journal, the +2 first selection merit list came out on 8 July 2026 at 11:45 am, with admission from 9 to 15 July 2026 till 6 pm. About 4,29,219 of 4,61,325 applicants were selected, as reported. Check your own status only on the official SAMS portal.

When is the SAMS +2 second selection merit list?

In 2026 the second selection list was reported by Careers360 for 23 July 2026 at 3 pm, with admission from 24 to 28 July 2026. OdishaBytes reported on 23 July that 46,570 students were selected out of 87,549 considered. Dates change every year, so check the official notice for the current cycle.

How do I download the SAMS intimation letter?

The official +2 FAQ says you download it through "Know Your CAF Status" on the portal. SAMS also sends your status by SMS, email and WhatsApp, and there is no postal letter. Print the letter and take it with your original certificates, CAF print-out, photo and admission fee when you report.

What is Freeze, Slide and Float in SAMS +3?

According to the official Degree FAQ, Freeze means you accept the allotted seat and leave later rounds. Slide keeps your seat but asks for a better choice in the same college. Float keeps your seat but asks for any higher choice. The Alter option lets you change Slide to Float or Freeze, or Float to Freeze, except in the last round.

What is slide-up in +2 admission?

The official FAQ says slide-up is for students selected against a lower option who want a higher option if a vacancy arises. In 2026, Careers360 reported slide-up requests from 10 to 16 July. If you move by slide-up or transfer, the school refunds your fee after deducting a Rs 100 processing fee, as per the FAQ.

I was not selected. Can I still get a +2 seat?

Yes, there are more chances. The official FAQ lists a second selection and then spot admission. In 2026, spot choice locking ran from 30 July to 2 August and the SPOT list came on 6 August, as reported by Careers360. Fill realistic choices and watch the official portal for each round.
